150 YEARS IN
GOLDEN MOUNTAIN

On the auspicious date of the 8th day of the 8th month of the year 2008, the VCCA presented a most ambitious event to celebrate a 150 Years in Golden Mountain. For those that don’t know the number 8 is very lucky in Chinese traditions. So on this date, we celebrated the arrival of Chinese migrants to stake their claim in the British Columbia Gold Rush of 1858.
We planned 2 major events for this celebration An original Pageant depicting the lives of these early immigrants and a Gala Awards Dinner to recognize the accomplishment of these migrants and their descendants.
The Pageant included some original content by local artist The Gala Dinner and Awards presented the 150 Years in Golden Mountain awards to Chinese Canadians who made major contributions to their communities.
